Melanie Walz

Melanie Walz studied at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart.

In addition to numerous engagements in free theater productions and concerts she gave in 1997 her debut at the Hamburg State Opera in Lachenmann's "Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern".

Her exceptional interpretation of the repertoire of the 20th century, could be found in numerous appearances: for example, in Schoenberg's “Moses and Aaron”, under the conduction of Kent Nagano at the Vienna Festival and in Berlin, in Luigi Nono “Intolleranza” in Cologne (Director: Günter Krämer) and the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Director: Peter Konwitschny), or in the premiere of Georg Friedrich Haas' Die schöne Wunde at the Bregenz Festival 2003.

In Basel, where she worked from 1998 to 2001, she interpretated among other, Marie in Bernd Alois Zimmermann's "Die Soldaten” and Sophie sang in “Der Rosenkavalier”.

From 2001 on she was five years Soloist of the Staatsoper Hannover where she interpretate, among others, Lulu in the namesake opera by Alban Berg.

In addition, Melanie Walz is as a dramatic coloratura soprano often requested as Mozart singer: in Lausanne and Lucerne as Giunia (Lucio Silla), Sandrina (Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe) in Basel and Hannover, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Konstanze (The abduction from the Seraglio), in Hanover.

At the National Theatre in Mannheim, she sang Titania in Britten's “A Midsummer Night`s Dream”.

In the season 2004/05 Melanie sang Deola in Luigi Nono's "Al gran sole carico d`amore". This production, directed by Peter Konwitschny was awarded as the “staging of the year” and guested at the Edinborough Festival.

At the Opera du Rhin in Strasbourg Melanie sang the new production of Lulu by Alban Berg, in the Berlin Festival under the direction of Silvain Cambreling, the Seconda Cantata by A.Webern.

"Tarde" by Aribert Reimann followed in the program of the "Komische Oper Berlin".

At the Stuttgart State Opera she sang "Hyperion" by Bruno Maderna.

For the premiere of the musical theater "Melancolia" by Georg Friedrich Haas she was engaged at the Opera National de Paris, the opera houses of Graz and Oslo, and in concerts with the North German Radio Hamburg, the “Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia” in Rome, and at the "Casa della musica" in Porto, Portugal.
